May day bank holiday weekend 50 Telford Harriers plus support descended upon Catton Park in Derbyshire to participate in the 12 hour Conti Lightning Run, 12 hours of 10k runs in which 53 mixed teams of 5 competed. 40 or so Harriers turned up on the Saturday and set up camp only a few yards from the Start/Finish line. Unfortunately the rain started on Saturday lunchtime and got heavier throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Telford Harriers took over the marquee as the evening went on. The tea, coffee, beer, proscecco and conversation was flowing! Everyone was tucked up in their tents by 10pm in readiness for the tough day ahead
5.30am on Sunday the race briefing took place we were advised to take it easy as parts of the course were very slippy. 6am and the first runners were off in the pouring rain, we were informed that the rain would stop at around 9am, we all kept our fingers crossed! Dean Gapper and David Kingston were the quickest Harriers, back in impressive times of 42.13 and 43.47 respectively. By the time the runners were on their 2nd lap the course had gone from bad to worse, it was turning into a mud run!
Despite the conditions ahead spirits weren’t dampened, by 10am the rain has stopped and by early afternoon the sun came out and running conditions had improved immensely. By 6pm everyone was basking in the sun celebrating completing the tough 12 hour task. There were some fine performances by the Harriers with The Green and Gold Barmy Army finishing 2nd , Harrier Dream Team, Matron’s Posse and Head and Shoulders Green and Gold all finishing in the top 10.
Well done to all that took part. Bring on Conti 2016

Improving your pacing and speed. April 2015
After the first 4 weeks of the speed work there have been some vast improvements in posture and technique and most of all times!!!
Athletes are seeing their race times tumbling. This is due to tiny adjustments to technique posture and pacing.
April will continue in the same format but with more detailed training sessions and more effort.
I am concentrating on 5k and 10k racers but of course everyone will benefit from doing the sessions.
Don’t be put off by the term “speed work” as it will be anything but that for the first few weeks. I’m hoping that runners who have attended the sessions before will come along and support the beginners.
The plan below outlines how we will progress for April.
Identifying your goals
Practice pacing and introduce some more technique.
Including fast feet.
A not so gentle hill session with uphill and downhill technique.
More Fast feet and high knees and silly walks!!!!!!!!!!
More serious paced running with technique. Plus review of
the past four weeks and how we progress to the next block
of training. How does a track session appeal. Your thoughts please?
Harriers A G M will take place on 21st April. Held at Horsehay golf club starting at 8.30.
Any proposals or nominations for club officers should be made to one of the committee before next meeting on14th April.
Thanks all Jeff
