Attingham Relays 2019 Report

With the dust hardly settled on Wednesday's Sexarathon, the Harriers were again out in force to take on the grounds of Attingham Park and the Attingham Relays 2019.

This ever popular event is staged by Shropshire Shufflers and is always a sell out. The route is a 2 mile circuit around the trails and woods of Attingham Park grounds and is completed in teams of 3; all female, all male or mixed.

The race attracts runners of many local clubs, of all abilities and really is an event for everyone to enjoy and the Harriers had entered a number of teams, or had club runners taking part on teams, in pretty much all categories.

Thankfully the sun was out and the weather was pretty good for running as the A runners lined up outside the State House waiting for the start. As soon as the horn sounded the first leg runners thundered down the slight hill and onto the gravel patch leading out towards the grounds of the estate.

The route took runners in a 2 mile loop over grass, where rabbit holes had to be avoided, into thew woodlands and back out towards the state house for the finish.

Michael Smith will be competing in the Great Run Manchester 10k this weekend, raising money for the British Stammering Association.

Michael said: "I’m running Great Run Manchester 10K and raising money for a charity that I have a personal connection with. I have suffered from a stammer since I began speaking at 4. I’ve learned to push on through many obstacles, but still worry massively about meeting new people - getting into running helped and joining a running club meant I was meeting people with the same interests, which helps that first ‘ice breaking’ conversation."

All at Telford Harriers will be behind Michael Sunday, and anyone interested to follow his progress can tune in to BBC2 from 12:00, with the elite men, fast paced club runners (which Michael will be in) and Orange wave starting at 13:02!
