Harriers Triumph at Local Races

It was a weekend of local racing for the Telford Harriers as Stafford Half Marathon and Shrewsbury 10k were the stand out races of the calendar. Both races have always been very popular for Telford teams, and this weekend was no different with many Telford running clubs having fantastic representation.

Shrewsbury 10k

This is a true town 10K with closed roads and a grand start & finish in the High Street of Shrewsbury.

Starting in the historic market town High Street, the route takes you on a couple of hills in the first 3km. Runners then enjoy a taste of Shrewsbury’s residential areas, the towns major river crossings, the beautiful tree-lined quarry park and be welcomed back into the busy Town Centre Square with great support from spectators.

With nearly 1000 runners hitting the streets in the inaugural event in 2016, the 2017 race grew to the an astonishing 2000 competitors for this years race.

We had a number of runners competing, registering times as follows:

137: Andy Pigg - 43:13

166: Richard Palmer - 44:06

Stafford Half Marathon

Always a popular race in the calendar, the Stafford Half Marathon was again attending by a good number of Telford Harriers.

The race started in Stafford town centre at 10am taking runners off from the town centre on traffic-controlled roads.

The route incorporated two steady climbs before returning to the Market Square for a well supported finish.

Stafford Half Marathon is one of the areas top races. Each year is a sell-out, and this year there was a 4,500-participant limit, so the competition was of very good quality.

And in other news

We had a number of runners also compete in other races around the UK, all committing to their running and representing the green and gold of Telford Harriers.

Darren Owen-Jones and Kerry Tostevin ran Gloucester 20, coming home in 2hrs41 and 2hrs 57 respectively.

Karen Foreman had a fantastic race at Wrexham Half Marathon, winning her age category and coming home in 2:06:17
