The pick of the races at the weekend was the Telford 10k, staged at Telford Town Centre. The race, organised by Telford Athletics Club, has been growing in popularity over several years and now attracts a high calibre of athlete as well as providing a fantastic event for runners of all abilities.
This years race was no exception. With a record entry level and its most competitive field to date, Sundays race was one of the years stand out events.
The race route hadn't changed and comprised of 2 laps of a very fast route, tree lined paths with plenty of shelter from the wind. So plenty of opportunities for 10k PB times were on offer. This year, to handle the growing field, organisers sent athletes off in 3 waves as follows:
Wave 1. 10.30am. All Elite Men (29min to sub 31min) and earlier online entries of Sub 40 minute Men (31 to 40 min)
Wave 2. 11.10am. Further 31 to 40 min Men online entries & Elite Ladies and all Ladies under 40 min Wave 3. 11.45am. Masses over 40 minutes (Men & Ladies)
We had runners in all 3 waves, all looking to improve on their 10k times on this fast, flat course.
First Harrier home, and our only runner in wave 1, was Dean Aston, posting an amazing PB of 35:25 a bettering his old best by 2 mins 22 seconds.
Michael Smith was another looking for a PB after months of hard work in training. Heading out in Wave 2, Micheal had a fantastic race and was another Harrier to set a PB, coming home in 35:57 and bettering his old personal best by 2mins 05 seconds.
Wave 3 was the masses and saw the remainder of our runners hit the course fully focused on enjoying the race.
First lady Harrier home was Lisa Yeomans posting a time of 48:12 and recording 10th place in her age category.
After some fantastic runners our green and gold athletes posted the following times:

Marie Mason - 1:38.40 - Course PB
Just 7 days after completing the Valencia Marathon, Art Zammit was on the marathon trail again to complete his 181st of his carrier, this time in Lanzarote.
It was a tough day at the office for Art as at 1km his left knee gave way and was struggling to put weight on.
As Art started to make his way back to the start line, fellow runners encourage him to carry on. Art said:
"as I've got no common sense and a bit stubborn, i thought what the hell, lets walk a bit and somehow I got to half way. Able to stay with a group of 100 marathon runners, we chatted it got us to the finish... so chuffed i didn't quit so early on but no comment about the knee"
"But one of the reasons I love marathons is meeting amazing inspiration folks and one of them is Martin Bush who had completed his 1000 marathon. A top humble gentleman who greets you when he sees you and wants to be the first to congratulate when you finish. An amazing guy and an honour to meet and call him a friend."
Art managed to complete the race in 5:39, an amazing achievement considering his injury just 1k into the race.
Derby Runner Bolsover 10K
Competing in this fast, flat 10k route were husband and wife harrier duo, James and Cath Wilson.
The Bolsover 10k route, organised by North Derbyshire Running Club, is a very well run event held in December each year and always enjoys great support at the start and finish lines. Renowned for its fantastic marshalling, this is a fast and flat one lap course through town and country all on road, not traffic free but well marshalled.
James registered a 10k PB with a time of 42:34 with Cath coming home in 52:52.
Victoria Park 5K
A week after registering a fantastic PB at the Valencia Marathon, Stephanie Eggleston was again in action, this time competing in a much shorter event in the Victoria park 5k race.
Steph managed to claim 1st in her age category and 12th overall with a time of 25:55 in this race.
Another fantastic weekends of racing for the TelfordHarriers with many now looking forward to the Christmas festivities before starting all over again in January,
