In a busy weekend for Telford Harriers, which included staging our very own Ironbridge Half Marathon, we still managed to field a team for the Sutton Park Road Relays and have a few runners compete at other races around the Midlands.
Sutton Park Road Relays
A huge favourite in the race calendar, the MCAA Spring Road Relays is a team event comprising of mens and ladies teams. Men run 12 stages; 4 being long at 5.38 miles and 8 over a 5k loop with the women being a 6 stage race with 2 being over the 5.38 distance and 4 being 5k loops.
In the mens event the long legs were the first 4 of the race and it was Michael Smith who set the team off running the first long leg, finishing in 32mins flat and in 46th position. The batten then passed to Jon Mahoney. Our 12 strong team of men finished in 52nd position overall in a total race time of 5:22:45
For our ladies team the 2 long stages were again the first two runners out and it was Vic Doran and Kerry Richardson were off first. Our ladies finished in 46th position overall and in a race time of 3:12:22
Overall another great event and one Team Harriers will be at again. The action was captured by Brian @ www.racephotos.co.uk and we thank you for his efforts again to capture some great images of all the runners
Wolverhampton Trail Half Marathon
Steeped in history, this race allows runners to retrace the footsteps of King Charles II along the stunning route through beautiful countryside. Runners wind their way through beautiful countryside along the Monarchs Way which forms part of the escape route used by King Charles II in 1651 after being defeated in the Battle of Worcester.
Running as a team of 3, Tania, Marie and Jo tackled this half-marathon race full of Harriers spirit. The race is slightly over the standard half marathon distance at almost 13.75 miles rather than the usual 13.1 miles. Terrain included grass, compressed gravel, mud and a little tarmac at the road crossings. The towpath narrows at certain parts, but still plenty of room for you to overtake others of a more leisurely pace.
Our ladies did amazingly well, coming home 2nd in their category with a team time of 2:44:24 and with smiles on their faces!
