Turkey, Christmas pudding, chocolate and prosecco, ingredients of a fantastic Christmas. So how better to burn off those excess calories than a 10k run?
A strong Harriers team descended on Wheaton Aston on a mild cloudy morning to take part in this annual 10k road race. The Wheaton Aston Roman 10K has been part of the traditional post-Christmas calendar for many years. There are usually around 450 to 500 competitors who are out to shake off the excesses of the Christmas Day turkey dinner. The course has been fixed for some time and despite the possibility of snow and ice is a fast route.
This years race started at 11am and many were after 10k PBs from this fast, flat course. The route started outside St.Mary’s School in Marston Road and took runners around the village of Wheaton Aston on streets and roads.
First Harrier home was Dean Aston, finishing 8th overall and with a time of 35:20 and registering a new 10k PB, closely followed by Michael Smith finishing in 17th with a time of 36:50.
First female home was Kerry Richardson in 145th place with a time of 48:10 followed by Louise with a time of 51:53.
With great running from all our participants our remaining runners came home as follows:
With the 2018 race calendar coming to a close all Harriers have their sights firmly set on 2019 which kicks off with the Shropshire Counties Cross Country event on 5th January.
From us all at Harriers HQ, have a fantastic New Year.
